BACKGROUND
Gregory P. DiLeo (J.D. LSU School of Law, 1980), is the Managing Partner of the Law Offices of Gregory P. DiLeo APLC, a New Orleans based law firm consisting of three attorneys and six support staff.
Mr. DiLeo, since his admission to practice in 1980, has engaged in civil litigation, has tried several jury trials, bench trials in personal injury cases, and has obtained the reversal and/or affirmation of cases involving the expansion of personal injury damages before the state appellate courts (Broome v. Gauthier, ((La. App., 4th Cir. 11/10/83) 443 So.2d 1127, (successfully extending mental anguish damages to uninjured victims, owners of property damages, who are present to see and experience the destruction of their property); and State Supreme Court (Jones v. Thomas, ((La. 1983)) 426 So.2d 609, holding that workmen’s compensation tort immunity does not extend to and exclude all intentional acts).
PERSONAL INJURY LITIGATION
Mr. DiLeo has tried numerous cases before judges and juries, for persons injured in incidents involving or resulting from negligent operation of automobiles, defective premises, (such as slip and fall, falling merchandise and other merchant liability cases), uninsured motorist claims, electrocutions, wrongful death and survival, hospital negligence, failure to evacuate for hurricanes, and bad faith insurance practices.
CLASS ACTION EXPERIENCE
1. Mr. DiLeo has acted as lead counsel in certified class actions:
a) Adrian P. Chalona, Sr., et al. v. La. Citizens Property Insurance Corp. (C/A No.: 107-125, Division “A” (34th Judicial District Court - St. Bernard Parish, State of Louisiana) and
b) Toni Swain Orrill, et al. v. La. Citizens Property Insurance Corporation; C/A No.: 05-11720, Division “L” (Civil District Court - Orleans Parish, State of Louisiana), Lead Counsel, Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee. A five day Fairness Hearing in Orrill resulted in a judgment upholding the settlement on March 19, 2009.
c) Patrick Joseph Turner, et al. v. Murphy Oil USA, Inc., C/A No.: 05-4206 (USDC - EDLA) Special Counsel to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for doing common benefit work.
