A man sadly lost his life in a recent accident involving an automobile in Louisiana. A woman was arrested in connection with the fatal crash, which took place on a Thursday. Sometimes deadly motor vehicle accidents happen due to the negligence of a driver, and in this situation, that driver may be held liable for the deaths that result.
According to police, a man, 59, was walking on a road. All of a sudden, a vehicle struck him at a little past 8 p.m. Authorities pronounced the man deceased at the accident scene.
The woman driving the car at the time of the crash suffered no injuries. Police arrested her on a negligent homicide charge. In addition, they obtained toxicology samples and submitted them to the state's crime lab to be analyzed. Authorities continued to investigate the collision.
The family members of the man who died in the Louisiana crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the woman who was arrested in connection with the collision, seeking damages. If the woman ends up being convicted on her charge of negligent homicide, proof of this conviction may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish her liability in the fatal accident. Liability must be established to the satisfaction of the civil court hearing the case before claims for monetary damages will be adjudicated. A damage award in a successfully litigated case may help to cover burial expenses and other losses tied to these types of deadly motor vehicle accidents.
