Commercial vehicle accident kills 1, injures 18 in Louisiana

A 56-year-old truck driver has been arrested following a recent collision in Louisiana in which one person was killed and 18 others suffered injuries. A commercial vehicle accident can have disastrous consequences that could affect the lives of all parties involved substantially. Those who suffer harm due to the actions of a negligent truck driver may wish to know more about the next steps to take, but the process can be complex.

Law enforcement agents advised that the crash took place at around 9 p.m. on a recent Wednesday. According to reports, traffic in the area had come to a halt, and upon approaching the stoppage, the driver of a tractor-trailer failed to stop his vehicle in time. The truck proceeded to cause a chain-reaction collision that involved as many as 10 other motor vehicles.

Police have advised that as many as 18 individuals suffered injuries in the accident, and a 46-year-old man was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. Although the investigation remains ongoing, the driver of the tractor-trailer has since been taken into custody. The man is reportedly facing numerous charges following the crash, including negligent homicide and negligent injuring.

Those who suffer major harm or experience the loss of a loved one in a commercial vehicle accident may wish to pursue restitution through the civil justice system. Since this can be an intimidating process, a person could choose to consult with an experienced attorney for assistance. An attorney in Louisiana can examine the accident extensively and assist a client in pursuing the full amount of restitution entitled through a claim against the party or parties deemed responsible.
