Many accidents are preventable. Avoiding distractions, adhering to laws, awareness of other vehicles on the road and driving without impairment can help avoid many accidents. Unfortunately, many drivers continue to engage in negligent behavior resulting in accidents and serious injuries. Recently, a Louisiana man was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly struck a motorcycle, among other violations he is accused of committing.
According to eyewitness reports and video footage, a man pulled out of a local restaurant into traffic. Reportedly, it appeared as if he was trying to cross all lanes, and in the process, he struck a motorcycle traveling in the right lane. Witnesses reported that the truck driver fled the scene of the crash before authorities could arrive.
Both the motorcycle driver and the driver's passenger suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. With the use of video surveillance and witness reports, authorities later found the truck driver at his home working on his truck. Authorities believe he may have been attempting to make repairs related to the hit-and-run accident. Blood alcohol tests are pending as are charges related to the accident.
When individuals suffer serious injuries in a crash, lives may be changed forever. Immediately, victims suffer pain and face medical treatments and expensive medical bills. Victims may not understand the long term effects of their injuries for quite some time and may incur escalating medical expenses. Louisiana attorneys are able to assist victims to understand their rights in similar accidents, file insurance claims and/or file a lawsuit in civil court for monetary damages.
