Just 1 incident of driver negligence can forever change lives

Every time an individual gets behind the wheel of a car, he or she undertakes a responsibility to others within the vehicle and in or near the roadway. Even an unintentional moment of distraction could result in a crash with devastating consequences. One recent wreck in Louisiana, which appears to have been caused by driver negligence, has left one family mourning the loss of a loved one.

According to Louisiana State Police, a crash killed a passenger in a car that collided with another vehicle. A northbound driver of an SUV on LA Highway 109 attempted to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway. Reportedly, the driver failed to yield the right-of-way to an oncoming car, resulting in the accident.

A 65-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the southbound vehicle, suffered what were initially described as moderate injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, her injuries proved too severe and she later died. There was no information concerning whether any other people were injured.

Officials conducted toxicology testing on both drivers, and it was not reported whether police suspect either driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. At this time, no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. Police have reminded all motorists to stay alert while driving and to avoid any behaviors or conditions that could lead to driver negligence and a serious crash. Families who have lost loved ones due to the negligence of another party may have legal recourse through the state's civil justice system.
