NOPD investigating fatal pedestrian vs. 18-wheeler accident

Pedestrians have little chance of survival if big rigs strike them. One such tragedy occurred in a busy New Orleans intersection on a recent Tuesday. The New Orleans Police Department is investigating this 18-wheeler accident that led to the death of a pedestrian.

Not many details were reported, except the comments by bystanders. An employee of a nearby business said police had collected a video with surveillance footage to help with the investigation. It was mentioned that the pedestrian might have been walking alongside the big rig as it was making a right turn at the intersection

Reportedly, the truck operator is from another state. He remained at the accident scene, and he was not cited at that time. First responders rushed to the accident scene, but the pedestrian had already succumbed to his injuries. A passerby noted that the victim was often seen in the intersection that is usually bustling with both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Whenever a loved one is killed in an 18-wheeler accident, the surviving family members might have questions about their legal rights to pursue a claim for financial relief. The sensible step would be to consult with an experienced New Orleans personal injury and wrongful death attorney who can assess the circumstances and determine the viability of a civil lawsuit. Such claims are based on negligence being established, which could be a daunting prospect without the help of legal counsel. If such a claim is successfully presented, documented claims for end-of-life costs and other financial damages are typically included in a monetary judgment.
