Fatal accident in Louisiana attributed to drunk driver

On Behalf of | Jan 8, 2020 | Drunk Driving Accidents

A deadly crash in Walker has resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man, according to local news sources. Louisiana State Police responded to the fatal accident in the early morning of Dec. 28. The driver believed responsible is accused of drunk driving, and has been arrested. No court date has been announced at this time.

According to the report, around 2:30 a.m. a 19-year-old woman was driving northbound on Walker Road when the accident occurred. Apparently, her vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the southbound lane, where she struck a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man head-on. The force of the impact resulted in the death of the male driver on the scene.

The woman was arrested when police arrived under suspicion of drunk driving. She was taken to a nearby law enforcement facility, where a breath test was administered. Her exact BAC was not made public, but police say she blew over the limit and was charged with first-offense DWI. She also faces charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring and several minor offenses.

Drunk driving is an offense made all the more egregious by its preventable nature. If the woman is found guilty of DWI, she will likely face the loss of her license as well as possible fines or even prison time. Even if she is not convicted, the family of the victim of the fatal accident is entitled to file a wrongful death suit in Louisiana civil court. Evidence used by police to support criminal charges can also be offered in court to support a civil case.
