Negligent driver possible cause of fatal crash

On Behalf of | Feb 26, 2020 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A woman from Lacombe was tragically killed in a multi-vehicle accident during the evening of Feb. 18, according to local sources. Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the accident, and has indicated that the cause of the crash was likely due to a negligent driver. Several other people were seriously hurt in the crash, which is still under investigation. As of this report, intoxication is not being considered a factor, and no charges have been filed.

According to the report filed by Troop L, the accident occurred around 5 p.m. on US 190 West in St. Tammany Parish. It appears an eastbound vehicle driven by a 38-year-old man struck the rear of another eastbound car. This caused his vehicle to enter the opposite lane where it struck a third car head-on. Thankfully, no one in the car that was initially struck was injured.

Unfortunately, those involved in the head-on collision did not fare so well. A 67-year-old female passenger was badly injured and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The drivers and passengers of both vehicles were all taken to the hospital with a variety of injuries, all of which are considered moderate to serious.

It is still unknown why the accident took place, but the actions of a negligent driver appears to be the most likely explanation. If Louisiana police determine the driver of the first vehicle violated the law while behind the wheel, he could face criminal charges. Separately, the family of the deceased woman, as well as all the injured parties (including those in his vehicle), are all entitled to file wrongful death and/or personal injury suits against him in civil court.
