Two-car accident claims 1 life and seriously injures another

On Behalf of | Jun 10, 2021 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A Louisiana woman has sadly lost her life in a tragic motor vehicle collision. The accident took place around Interstate 49 along Louisiana Highway 175. Sometimes, these types of crashes occur due to a driver’s carelessness behind the wheel, which is grounds for litigation.

Events leading up to the accident

The recent crash took place at about 3 p.m. Police said a man, 72, was driving south on the highway while a woman, 77, was driving north. The woman then reportedly attempted to turn left but did not yield to oncoming traffic, thus crashing into the man’s car.

The man suffered serious injuries in the crash. However, he ended up passing away from her injuries after being transported to a medical center. The woman also suffered injuries in the crash and was taken to a medical center, where her injuries were not deemed life threatening.

Legal recourse following the crash

The surviving loved ones of the victim who died in the unfortunate accident may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the woman, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages. They must be able to establish liability, based upon a showing of negligence, before their claim for damages will be decided. If they are successful, they might receive a financial damage award to cover their loved one’s burial expenses, support for surviving dependents and other costs stemming from the accident. No amount of money can undo the events leading to the man’s death, but it can help his loved ones to experience a sense of justice in light of the fatal crash.
