On August 30, 2019, Mr. DiLeo won a jury verdict in the amount of $3,038,078.00 ($3.6M with judicial interest) for his client, Obadiah Stephenson, a 44-year-old Marrero house renovator, who was injured in a low-speed collision by an 18 wheeler owned and operated by Sunbelt Rentals, Inc. In Stephenson v. Hotard, et al., docket no. 2016-2900 of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Mr. Stephenson sustained major spinal injuries requiring surgery, with instrumentation and hardware, followed by extensive pain management, post-surgical epidural steroid injections and Rhyzotomies, which will have to be repeated for the foreseeable future.
On April 23, 2019, Mr. DiLeo obtained a settlement in the amount of $2.1 Million on behalf of a 38-year-old Buras, La heavy equipment operator who was injured in an intersectional collision with a company vehicle. In Mayberry v. Baskin, et al., docket no. 80-285 of the 29th Judicial District Court for the Parish of St. Charles, Mr. Mayberry sustained major spinal injuries requiring surgery, with instrumentation and hardware, followed by another surgery to remove his hardware.
On April 10, 2018, Mr. DiLeo obtained a jury verdict in the amount of more than $11 Million on behalf of a New Orleans woman injured in a head-on collision between two garbage trucks at a landfill. In Duplessis v. Turner, et al., docket no. 2015-4256 of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Ms. Duplessis suffered major spinal injuries requiring surgery and severe psychological injuries when the operator of another garbage truck lost control of his fully loaded truck, crossed into her lane of travel and struck her head-on.
On August 26, 2016, Mr. DiLeo obtained a unanimous jury verdict in the amount of $3.2 Million Dollars on behalf of a Metairie man injured in a motor vehicle collision, where $2M was awarded for physical and mental pain and suffering, in the matter entitled, Scott W. Tillman v. Joseph Lawrence, Schneider National Carriers, Inc., et al.,” docket no. 699-698 of the 24th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Jefferson.
Mr. DiLeo’s recent significant verdicts and settlements include a settlement with Domino’s Pizza, who agreed to a $3.9 Million settlement in the matter of “Erica Jones v. Kristi Sons, RPM Pizza, Inc and Tower Insurance Company,” bearing #2012-6372 of the docket of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans. The matter stemmed from the July 4, 2011 collision between Jones and a Domino’s delivery driver at the intersection of Dwyer Road and Crowder Blvd. in New Orleans, LA. Jones was a freshman medical student at Tulane Medical School at the time and sustained a severe wrist fracture. Dr. Jones graduated from Tulane Medical School in 2014 and has been accepted into Emory University’s Neurology residency program.
In 2014, Mr. DiLeo was lead counsel in several consolidated cases where he obtained a settlement for an undisclosed sum in the matter entitled, “Urquhart v. Metropolitan Hospice,” bearing no. 2006-3826 of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans. This suit involved the deaths of several elderly patients of Metropolitan Hospice in New Orleans East, where the nursing staff, led by administrator Mona Bagot, R.N, who abandoned all of the patients in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, leaving them to die alone with only a minister, who had no medical training.
Gregory P. DiLeo was lead counsel on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the class action entitled, “Orrill v. La. Citizens Fair Plan,” which was settled in 2013 for $20 Million against La. Citizens.
In 2010, Mr. DiLeo was lead counsel in another Katrina related case, which settled during trial in the amount of $1.5M in the matter entitled, “Edwards v. UHS, Inc.,” bearing no. 2006-9310 of the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans. This suit involved the death of the plaintiff’s mother who perished at Methodist Hospital in New Orleans East, due to the failure of the hospital’s administrators to evacuate its patients before Hurricane Katrina.
