Man passes away in tragic semi-truck accident

On Behalf of | Nov 2, 2021 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A man’s life has sadly been snuffed out in a tragic semi-truck crash in Louisiana. The accident occurred on a recent Wednesday evening along U.S. Highway 165. These kinds of accidents can easily happen due to a driver’s negligence, in which case the reportedly careless driver may be held liable for any injuries or deaths resulting from the crash.

Events leading up to the accident

The recent accident in Allen Parish occurred at around 7:30 p.m. According to police, a 53-year-old man was driving an 18-wheeler south in the highway’s merging lane next to its left travel lane. Meanwhile, a 59-year-old man was driving a pickup truck in the highway’s left travel lane.

All of a sudden, the semi-truck driver attempted to enter the left travel lane. However, his trailer’s right side reportedly hit the pickup truck’s left side in the process. The semi-truck driver did not suffer injuries in the crash. However, the pickup truck driver suffered injuries and was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. Police continued to investigate the cause of the collision.

How an attorney can help in the aftermath of these situations

If police determine that the accident occurred due to the semi-truck driver’s carelessness, then the surviving family members of the deceased pickup truck driver may opt to file a wrongful death claim against the semi-truck driver. The semi-truck driver’s employer might also be named in the lawsuit. In a successfully litigated lawsuit, the court may award damages to cover the deceased man’s burial costs and other expenses stemming from the Louisiana truck accident.
