A woman’s life has sadly been lost in a tragic motor vehicle crash in Tangipahoa Parish. The two-car collision took place along Louisiana Highway 140 on a recent Monday. Sometimes, these types of crashes take place due to driver carelessness, in which case the reportedly at-fault driver may be held liable for any injuries or deaths resulting from the collision.
How the accident occurred
The unfortunate incident took place at about 10:30 a.m. According to authorities, a 25-year-old man was driving a pickup truck and ended up blowing through a stop sign. The truck then reportedly entered a busy highway intersection and struck an automobile that a 35-year-old woman was driving.
Police said the impact of the collision caused the second motor vehicle to overturn. The woman was then allegedly thrown from the automobile and passed away at the accident scene. Meanwhile, the pickup truck driver suffered no injuries. Police continued to investigate the crash and reported that criminal charges were pending.
Legal recourse may be possible following the accident
The surviving loved ones of the woman who passed away in the Louisiana accident may decide to file a wrongful death claim against the man who allegedly caused the crash. If the man is criminally charged and is ultimately convicted on his charges, proof of this may be presented in a related civil court proceeding with the goal of establishing liability in the fatal accident. If the plaintiffs are successful in their claim, they may be awarded damages to cover the woman’s funeral expenses and other accident-related losses.
