Louisiana is home to thousands of motorcyclists. Just take a short drive, and it’s apparent that motorcycles are a popular form of transportation and recreation in this state. Although motorcycles can be an enjoyable way to get around, they offer little protection in an accident. Accidents with other vehicles can cause serious and even fatal injuries to motorcyclist, as evidence by a recent tragedy in the state.
Devastating accident kills motorcyclist
In Kenner, a rider lost his life in a wreck apparently caused by another driver. The accident happened during the afternoon hours on West Metairie Avenue at the Clay Street intersection. According to accident reports, the motorcyclist was headed east on West Metairie Avenue when a sedan ran through a stop sign on Clay Street.
Reportedly, the sedan hit the motorcycle and knocked the rider off the bike. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Police said the driver of the sedan was arrested and charged with negligent homicide, possession of drug paraphernalia and other serious charges.
Where can victims go for help?
Motorcyclists need to stay hyper-vigilant any time they are riding near other vehicles. Since riders are completely exposed, even a minor collision can lead to severe injuries. Those in Louisiana who have suffered injuries or the loss of loved ones due to the negligence of another party in motorcycle accidents have the right to contact a trusted attorney and pursue legal recourse. A lawsuit, if successful, could result in much-needed compensation to help ease the pain and suffering of victims and families.
