Pedestrian dies, man arrested following Louisiana crash

On Behalf of | Sep 9, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

An individual’s life has been sadly lost in a tragic hit-and-run motor vehicle accident in Lafourche Parish. In addition, a man has been arrested for reportedly causing the accident and failing to remain at the crash scene. The accident took place on a recent Thursday night along Louisiana Highway 182.

Events leading up to the car crash

The tragic incident took place at a little before 9 p.m. According to authorities, a 34-year-old man was driving a sport utility vehicle east on the highway. He then allegedly struck a pedestrian who was in the road at the time before fleeing the accident scene.

The pedestrian suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to a medical center for treatment. Unfortunately, the pedestrian ended up passing away as a result of the injuries. Police later found the man who allegedly caused the crash and took him into custody.

Seeking legal support following these tragedies

The family members of the pedestrian who died in the Louisiana accident may decide to file a wrongful death claim against the sport utility vehicle driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. They must establish liability in civil court, based upon a showing of negligence, before a judge will decide their claim for damages. Damages in a successfully fought suit might help them to cover the pedestrian’s burial costs and hospital expenses. A damage award may also help to cover the loss of support for any of the pedestrian’s surviving dependents.
