Tragic car accident claims boy’s life and injures 2 others

On Behalf of | Sep 23, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

A car crash in Tangipahoa Parish has sadly claimed the life of a 1-year-old boy. The accident also led to two others suffering injuries. Sometimes, these types of unfortunate incidents occur as a result of driver negligence, in which case, the reportedly at-fault party may be held liable for any injuries or deaths resulting from the collision.

How the collision happened

The fatal wreck took place on a recent Wednesday. According to police, a 28-year-old man was driving a pickup truck eastbound along Interstate 12’s left lane. A car was also reportedly going east at that time.

Police reported that the pickup truck suddenly rear-ended the car. The 1-year-old boy, who was a passenger in one of the automobiles, suffered serious injuries due to the impact and was taken to a medical center, where he ultimately died from his injuries. Meanwhile, the two drivers survived the collision, although they both suffered injuries in the wreck.

Legal recourse for victims of motor vehicle accidents

Louisiana police may determine through their investigation that the pickup truck driver caused the crash due to negligent behavior, such as speeding or texting while driving. In this situation, the injured driver of the car may choose to file a personal injury claim against the driver, seeking the reimbursement of financial damages. Likewise, if the child who was killed was riding in the car at the time of the crash, his surviving loved ones may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the truck driver. Successfully fought claims may help to cover any losses related to the accident, such as hospital expenses and burial costs.
