Motor vehicle accidents involving tractor-trailers can be deadly

Tractor-trailers may require more time to make a sudden stop than other vehicles, and a lapse in judgment concerning distance under similar circumstances can be catastrophic. Motor vehicle accidents involving such vehicles are dangerous and can pose a significant threat to the health of everyone nearby. A recent accident involving a semi in Louisiana has claimed the life of a 66-year-old man.

According to reports, the incident occurred as the driver of a tractor-trailer was attempting to brake while approaching vehicles ahead that had slowed down. However, the truck ended up in the opposite lane, subsequently hitting another vehicle head-on before colliding with two others. While everyone else suffered no more than minor injuries in the process, the driver of the vehicle that was involved in the initial head-on collision was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the accident was initiated, and although authorities do not believe intoxication was a factor, toxicology samples were taken. Following the accident, the driver of the tractor-trailer was taken into custody and charged with negligent homicide and careless operation. Similar forms of negligence have been the cause of a multitude of fatal accidents, many of which have left surviving family members to grieve over lost loved ones.

When families lose someone close in fatal motor vehicle accidents, they may seek to hold the party deemed at fault accountable through the civil justice system. However, the process can be stressful and intimidating, prompting many to seek guidance from an experienced attorney. An attorney in Louisiana can assist a client in pursuing the full amount of compensation deserved through a wrongful death claim against the party believed to be responsible.
