Commercial vehicle accident kills 1, injures several in Louisiana

Since they are built to carry heavy loads over long distances, tractor-trailers are significantly larger and heavier than other vehicles and thus require more time to come to a complete stop. Even a moment of distraction or hesitation on the part of a truck driver can leave the trucker without sufficient time to react to a stop in traffic, and the result of such an occurrence can be devastating. A man had died during a recent commercial vehicle accident in Louisiana that involved as many as nine vehicles.

The incident reportedly occurred on a recent Thursday at around 1:30 p.m. when the driver of a semitrailer failed to slow down upon encountering a traffic jam. According to reports, the man proceeded to steer the truck into a nearby lane and struck several vehicles in the process. The truck eventually came to rest on top of one of the other vehicles, and the man who was driving that car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several others were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries shortly after the crash. Law enforcement agents are continuing to investigate the incident, but have advised that intoxication isn't suspected to be a contributing factor. However, the driver of the semi has reportedly been charged with careless operation, and may face additional charges once the investigation is completed.

Suffering serious injuries or losing someone close in a commercial vehicle accident can be a devastating experience. Victims or family members of deceased victims may wish to hold the responsible party accountable through the civil justice system, and they could choose to consult with an attorney for assistance in navigating the process. A personal injury attorney can assist a client in Louisiana in pursuing the full amount of compensation entitled through a claim against the party deemed culpable.
