Car accidents: 2 killed, 3 critically injured in collision

For many individuals in Louisiana and elsewhere, the fear of encountering an intoxicated driver is ever-present. Car accidents involving similar acts of negligence can be dangerous incidents that pose a significant threat to one's health. A man has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and is facing numerous charges following a recent accident that reportedly claimed the lives of a woman and her 1-year-old son.

Initial investigations suggest that the incident occurred when a driver suddenly lost control of his vehicle and veered off the side of the road. Upon attempting to maneuver back to the road, he reportedly overcorrected and his truck began spinning across the lanes of traffic. The truck proceeded to cross the median and struck a nearby vehicle after entering an oncoming lane. The driver of the second vehicle and her 1-year-old son both suffered fatal injuries and they were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Police have also advised that the woman was pregnant at the time and that three other passengers in her vehicle suffered serious injuries in the accident. The driver of the truck was also taken to a medical facility for treatment, and he was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving. According to authorities, he is now facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and reckless operation.

Losing a loved one can be a difficult experience to accept, especially when the loss occurs in car accidents involving a negligent driver. Those who face a similar circumstances may wish to exercise their right to pursue restitution in civil court, and they could choose to consult with an attorney for assistance. An attorney can provide a client in Louisiana with assistance in pursuing the full amount of compensation entitled through a wrongful death claim.
