Drivers in Louisiana face a significant number of risks and dangers every time they take to the road. To mitigate some of these risks, drivers should always stay focused, attentive and practice defensive driving habits. However, no amount of preparation or precautions can totally prevent car accidents from happening. Unfortunately, the majority of Louisiana motorists will be involved in an accident at some point in their lives.

Fatal crash details

Recently, a serious accident near Rayville involving two vehicles claimed the life of a man. The crash happened during the evening hours on US Hwy 425. Reports said a 2002 model pickup truck was traveling north and was being followed by a 2016 model pickup truck. According to accident reports, the driver of the 2016 pickup truck collided with the back of the 2002 pickup truck, causing the driver to veer across the median and into the southbound lanes of traffic.

Impairment suspected

Tragically, authorities said the driver of the 2002 pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Police suspected the driver of the 2016 pickup of being intoxicated, and allegedly, a breath test showed the driver to be over the legal limit. Police said the driver was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular negligent injury, among other charges.

Roadways across Louisiana seem to be becoming more dangerous with each passing day. Car accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. When negligence in an accident causes injuries or death, victims and families reserve the right to contact a skilled litigator and purse damages. A successful lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to help victims and families recover from a devastating event.
