The crash happened at night on Louisiana Highway 182 near Houma. According to accident reports, the driver of an eastbound sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle in a no-passing zone. The driver steered into the westbound lanes to make the pass and violently collided head-on with a westbound sedan.
Multiple deaths
Authorities said the driver and passenger in the westbound sedan were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver and passenger in the eastbound sedan were severely injured and taken to a hospital where they both died a short time later. Although the accident is still under investigation, police said they suspect impairment and reckless driving to be factors in the accident.
