Louisiana is home to thousands of motorcyclists. Motorcycles are very popular and also an efficient and convenient way to get around. However, riding along crowded roadways can feel like a nightmare for bikers. Motorcycles have a smaller profile than passenger vehicles, so they are more difficult for other drivers to spot. Unfortunately, this is the cause of many serious and fatal motorcycle accidents.
Deadly motorcycle versus vehicle crash
Recently, an accident in Houma involving a motorcycle and an SUV claimed the life of the motorcyclist. The crash happened on Louisiana Highway 1 at the intersection of West 57th Street. According to reports, the biker was headed south on Louisiana Highway 1, approaching the intersection, when the driver of a northbound SUV attempted to make a left turn onto West 57th Street and turned into the path of the motorcycle.
Biker thrown from motorcycle
Reportedly, the motorcycle struck the SUV and threw the rider from the bike. Tragically, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, reports said. The fatal accident remains under investigation.
While it is true that motorcycles are known for being dangerous, much of the risk comes from other vehicles on the roadway. In Louisiana, when an individual is hurt or killed in a motorcycle accident caused by the negligence of another driver, victims or surviving family members have the right to pursue legal recourse by contacting a skilled litigator. Damages from a successfully litigated lawsuit could give victims and families deserved compensation to help them get through this difficult experience.
