1 person killed, several injured in hit-and-run crash

On Behalf of | May 15, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Statistically, the majority of drivers in Louisiana will be involved in a crash at some point in their lives. Car accidents often cause physical injuries, but they can also cause emotional and psychological trauma. When a negligent driver causes an accident and then flees the scene, the experience can be devastating for victims and families. Recently in New Orleans, a driver fled the scene of a car accident that killed one person and injured several others.

Serious accident

The deadly accident happened during the evening hours at the intersection of Pauger Street and North Miro Street. According to accident reports, the driver of an SUV began traveling the wrong way on North Miro Street and collided with an oncoming sedan. Reports said the force of the impact caused the SUV to overturn and strike four pedestrians who were standing in a nearby area. Apparently, three unoccupied parked vehicles were also struck.

Driver flees the scene

Authorities said five people in total were seriously injured. Tragically, one of those injured later died at a hospital. Police said the driver of the SUV as well as its occupants fled the scene on foot. Witnesses reported hearing gun shots prior to the incident. Reportedly, no arrests have been made at this time and police are seeking information.

It goes without saying no person wants to experience a car accident. However, the chances for accidents exist each time motorists take to the road. Those in Louisiana who have suffered injuries or the loss of dear loved ones as the result of negligence in car accidents have the right to take legal action and file a lawsuit. Damages from a successful claim could help victims and families cope with this traumatic experience.
