Truck driver charged after a toddler is killed in a crash

On Behalf of | May 1, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

It’s safe to say that most Louisiana residents are aware that tractor-trailers play an important role in keeping grocery store shelves stocked and supply chains rolling. However, driving on the interstate near massive tractor-trailers can be stressful and quite dangerous. Getting into an accident with these massive rigs can have fatal consequences.

Interstate accident

Recently near Albany, an accident involving a tractor-trailer resulted in the death of a child who was less than 2 years old. The crash happened around 8 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 15. Reports said traffic had come to a standstill on the roadway, and for unknown reasons, the driver of a tractor-trailer failed to stop. Unfortunately, the tractor-trailer reportedly slammed into the back of a pickup truck occupied by three people, including the child.

Driver arrested and charged

Tragically, authorities said the child died from injuries suffered in the crash. Reportedly, the driver of the pickup truck and a passenger suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to police, the driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested and charged with reckless operation and negligent homicide.

Losing a beloved family member in a crash is devastating. Those in Louisiana who have suffered the unfortunate loss of a dear loved one in this type of accident reserve the right to contact a skilled litigator and pursue legal recourse. A lawsuit, if successful, could result in much-needed compensation to help surviving family members with end-of-life expenses and other documented items of monetary damage.
